Since the UN Security Council has approved the enforcement of a "no-fly-zone" over Libya it would be allowed for planes from the US and other countries to shoot down Libyan jets and destroy ground targets in case they present a threat.
19-03-2011 - Washington -- In a congressional hearing on March 16, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz said that he would expect the F-22 Raptors to be used to enforce the no-fly-zone.
The F-22's stealth and dog-fighting capabilities make it one of the most suitable weapons to be deployed in this situation and to disable the heavily radar-defende northern coastline of Lybia, as well as the in-land military airfields.
Besides the fact that the F-22 is far superior to any planes used by the Lybian airforce, it is also equipped with ground attack weaponry and electronic warfare equipment. The debut of the F-22 in combat has long been awaited by military enthusiasts.

The F-22s will probably not be used for this incident as Obama chooses to stay out of another war with a muslim country.

About time the eurofighter's aint doing the job right , with the f-22/f-35 there it will be a walk in the park to keep the skies clear and whyn't deploy ac-130's there ? wont be more effective to fight them with better ground targeting and better bombarment on their bases??.

To Anthony: Attitudes like those expressed in your post are exactly what galls people from counties other than the United States. You're the sort of person who could name all the 50 states of the Union, but couldn't even point out on a map where Tripoli is on a map. It's Americans like you that started referring to other cities in the world by their country, i.e. 'Rome, Italy' and 'Paris, France'. Do you realise how ridiculous the rest of the world finds this? How does 'Washington, America' sound to you? It's possible that the world was actually a better, safer place when the Soviet Union still existed. At least there was a curb on the United States' jingoistic, misinformed tendencies. Oh, and by the way, I'm not British, I'm Australian (both with capital letter, which you couldn't even be bothered to use in your original post).... go usa

To Paul Smith -- In your emotionally charged rebuttal you mentioned 'Washington, America', should that have been 'Washington D.C. United States of America.' I mean if we are to split hairs lets split some hairs. I feel for you buddy but the old saying still has a ring of truth whether you like it or not "If America has a sniffle the rest of the world catches a cold."
To Inam Qureshi -- You mean the Islam of Peace which would like to execute a man simply for refusing to renounce his chosen religion of Christianity? I believe the word you are looking for is Piece. Yes Isalm is the religion of piece, as in if you don't pay the dhimmi we will take a piece. A piece of your property, a piece of your head, a piece of your family.

Once you run every word the Brits utter, through an industrial strength, phonetic based, speech impediment filter, it vaguely resembles p.able English. As for the acrimony directed toward America, it is simple cl. envy.

The F-22 should be used to ensure air dominance, and to keep the peace. I want to see it in action!
